Cape St. Vincent

The most westerly point of mainland Europe, Cabo de Sao Vicente is well worth a visit. In days gone by sailors used to call it the ‘end of the world’ until Henry the Navigator and Christopher Columbus proved them wrong. Today there you will see a lighthouse and be able to marvel at the spectacular high cliffs and breath-taking view of the seas...

next stop the Azores and Americas. Often there are stalls selling crafts and souvenirs and the lighthouse museum may be open for viewing. Watch out for the fishermen on the cliff-tops. Look out too for the start of the cycle route, the Ecovia do Litoral along the south coast (sorry the page is in Portuguese but your browser may be able to translate). The foundation stone for this was laid on 4th March 2006
